Rare French Camel Mantel clock
A very rare French striking mantel clock in its period display case. The case is spelter then bronzed and gilded with many decorative pieces that goes which the Arab and his Camel in wonderful original condition. The dial has enameled numerals and gilded moon hands. The movement strikes the hours and then once at half past on its bell. After servicing this clock it was found that the clock ran unassisted for about 20 days. The clock itself stands 20 3/4″ high and 17″ wide. Circa 1880.
Footnote…. I have only ever seen two examples before, both missing their rifles and one missing its hat, which one was repainted a horrible brown and the other again this time a horrible gold. This example has not been repainted or touch-up and retains all its original gilding and although it is missing the cheek decoration to the Camel at the back it has its rifle and hat.
